A Hungarian Folklife Association és az Örökség Megállapodást Írt Alá a Néptánc Világszintű Erősítésére
A Hungarian Folklife Association (HFA) és az Örökség Nemzeti Gyermek és Ifjúsággal Népművészeti Egyesület a napokban írt alá megállapodást a Magyar néptánc globális megerősítéséről. Mindkét szervezet ügyvezető igazgatói, Ifj. Magyar Kálmán (HFA) és Sikentáncz Szilveszter 2024. április 17-én, Kanadában, egy ünnepségen írták alá a memorandumot.
Az Örökség és az HFA között létrejött megállapodás révén a népi közösségek kamatoztatni tudják Magyarország legkiemelkedőbb, legaktívabb és legjelentősebb népéleti egyesületének szakértelmét.
"Mivel tovább kívánjuk segíteni az HFA munkáját, hogy együttműködési lehetőségeket biztosítson észak-amerikai és más globális folklife csoportok és egyének között, az Örökség megélt tapasztalata és hálózata megerősítheti kollektív erőforrás-megosztásunkat, szakmai fejlődésünket és azon túl is. Szervezetük több évtizedes tapasztalattal rendelkezik. ezekben a tevékenységekben, és az egyesület tudásának kihasználása nagy nyeremény az HFA és minden társult szervezete/együttese számára," mondja Ifj. Magyar Kálmán.

Advance Folk Dance Globally
The Hungarian Folklife Association (HFA) and the Örökség Nemzeti Gyermek és Ifjúsággal Népművészeti Egyesület recently signed an agreement to strengthen folk dance engagement globally. Executive Directors from both organizations, Kálmán Magyar, Jr (HFA) and Szilveszter Sikentáncz signed the MOU during a ceremony in Canada on April 17, 2024.
Founded in 1989, the Örökség’s mission is to organize an effective community of Hungarian children’s folk dance ensembles, including their leaders and all teachers who work to advance Hungarian children’s folk dance. Another goal is to increase engagement in overall Hungarian folklife and cultural activities by teaching folk dance and raising amateur artistic work to noteworthy levels.
A 20+ year leader in the Hungarian folk dance community, Sikentáncz is currently on sabbatical as a Canadian KCSP fellow. He spent more than 10 years as a dancer with the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble. During this time, he won the Örökös Aranysarkantyús Táncos Award, the Népművészet Ifjú Mestere title, as well as many other solo dance awards. He has been officially recognized for his work as a dance teacher, founder, and ensemble leader. There is very little in terms of leadership, consulting, education that Sikentáncz hasn’t done. His formers students and mentees across the Carpathian Basin are in the thousands, and he continues to impact national and regional organizations. In 2023, Sikentáncz received the Hungarian Gold Cross of Merit. And in the first week of May, he will receive Hungary’s Bonis Bona, Teacher of the Nation Award.
This pedigree and set of experiences, coupled with being among the North American diaspora has given Sikentáncz an insight into folk dance abroad. Last fall, he also attended the Hungarian Folklife Association’s Annual Conference and connected with its leadership.
“We all agreed that KCSP is an effective and impactful model. There is so much good that comes out of it – and the communities that have a fellow are energized, renewed and come out feeling more connected to what’s going on in Hungary. That said, because the fellows rotate yearly and their expertise lies in different areas, HFA and Örökség are well-positioned to offer long-term professional development and a vehicle for more substantive ensemble-wide changes. When a folk dance community requires longterm planning, and implementation, this partnership can offer resources and support,” observes Sikentáncz.
More specifically, through this agreement between Örökség and the HFA, folklife communities will be able to leverage the expertise of Hungary’s most prominent, active, and sizeable folklife association.
“As we look to further the HFA’s work of providing opportunities for collaboration among North American and other global folklife groups and individuals, Örökség’s lived-experience and network can bolster our collective resource sharing, professional development, and beyond. Their organization has decades of experience in these activities, and tapping into the association’s know-how is a big win for the HFA and all of its affiliated organizations/ensembles. We look forward to sharing details about our collective initiatives in the coming months,” says Magyar, Jr.
